IMPLEMENTASI ISI KITAB MATAN JURUMIYAH DALAM MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN BACA KITAB KUNING SANTRI

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the implementation of the content of the book Matan Jurumiyah in
improving the ability of students to read yellow books at Pondok Pesantren Al-Asy’ariyah Wuluhan
Jember. The approach used is qualitative with a descriptive design. The subjects included the
caregiver, ustadz, and students. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth
interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results
indicate that Matan Jurumiyah serves as an effective epistemological and grammatical foundation
for beginners due to its systematic and deductive material structure. The implementation of teaching
using a combination of the Bandongan and Question and Answer methods proves capable of creating
interactive classroom dynamics. This interaction process acts as scaffolding that reduces boredom
and enhances students' cognitive understanding of Arabic grammar rules without vowels. Another
significant finding is the emergence of learner autonomy among students, where they begin to be
able to translate yellow books independently without full dependence on the ustadz. In conclusion,
the integration of Jurumiyah material with adaptive and interactive teaching methods is a strategic
solution to maintain and preserve the tradition of yellow book literacy amidst the challenges of the
digital era.
